25. Editing the self-narrating "Tax Cuts" episode — another major political issue of the period, affecting both domestic and foreign policy.

26. The completed three-hour Story Edit of "Things of the Spirit." Copies were sent to all project advisors and filmed interviewees for review and comment. Complementary copies were also sent to major donors.

27. Ilustrating the Story Edit. Work product from research at film and photo archives — including descriptions and reference copies from sources nationwide.

28. Reference videos (at left) are made of archival film elements needed to illustrate the completed Story Edit. As funding allows, archival scenes are selected for remastering from nitrate originals.

30. In the film archives. Because no biographical film has ever before been made on the personal and political life of Calvin Coolidge, the needed visual material has remained unused and unseen on decomposing nitrate film in archives across the country.

31. Most of the relevant film cans have remained unopened for decades.

32. The nature of nitrate film decomposition. Because of its strong visual preservation component, "Things of the Spirit" will be completed on archivally stable motion picture film before being transferred to transient video formats.
